Summary:
This position conducts specialized health education classes using moderately difficult or varied curriculum designed for the improvement of health of Kaiser Members & non-members & may serve as content & resource expert in the development of class curriculum.Demonstrated knowledge of behavior change, adult learning theory and application. Strong interpersonal, communications skills. Must be able to work in flexible, changing , on-call instructor environment with unpredicatable schedule confirmations and changes.Maintain knowledge of Kaiser and community resources. Encourages utilization of and referral to resources. Teaching bilingual spanish/vietnamese as well as English classes.
Essential Functions:
- Teaches & models self-management skills, concepts, resources, & tools related to health, lifestyle change, & behavior modification to class participants.
- Assists participants in developing specific behavioral goals.
- Provides individual instruction & counseling, as needed.
- Assesses needs of class participants & modifies class content to meet those needs.
- Applies evidence based education techniques in teaching methods.
- Sustains a high level of expertise & assures cutting-edge knowledge in specific topic area.
- May coordinate health information projects such as program catalogs, newsletter, informational displays, community health events, etc.
- May support staff education training related to specific content area.
- May consult w/ physicians & staff regarding related health education services.
- May be called on to review & develop or recommend high quality, culturally appropriate, written, & audio-visual health education materials to better meet class needs.
- Arranges & coordinates room set-up, availability of materials, & audio/visual equipment.
- Maintains records of training activities, including attendance rosters, homework assignments, class evaluations, & timesheets or phone TIME system.
- Administers & collects class evaluation forms & class fees.
- Conducts follow-up phones calls to participants including those who missed sessions to determine reason for absence, monitor progress of participants, & answer related questions.
- Completes required continuous training & education such as; those related to workplace safety, legal & regulatory compliance, accreditation & license requirements, & department specific requirements.
- Maintains & promotes knowledge & utilization of resources related to health, lifestyle change, & behavior modification offered by Kaiser Permanente & through the community.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 4 years of experience teaching classes or conducting training programs.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Master's degree in Public Health Administration or equivalent preferred.
- Licensed or professional credentials or certification as appropriate for the course instruction.
- Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory & group process.
- Current knowledge of health concepts, preventive health care, & behavior change.
- Must possess excellent communication & interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated skills in teaching techniques & presentation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead & facilitate diverse groups of people w/ understanding of group dynamics.
- Ability to function independently & exercise professional judgment.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Bilingual Spanish
-Teaching, facilitation/adult education level process skills. Interest and/or experience in teaching smoking cessation, weight management, nutrition, pediatric families with awareness of psychological issues involved
-Nutrition, weight management, work with bilingual community latino/asian families
-KP knowledge
- Knowledge of Nutrition, Fitness, Sleep , smoking cessation behavioral change management
-Basic computer skills; lotus notes, customer service orientation.
